Toxic Green Hammer Coral

The Toxic Green Hammer Coral, Euphyllia ancora, is a popular and striking large polyp stony (LPS) coral known for its distinctive hammer-shaped tentacles. It's a cornerstone species in many reef aquariums, valued for its movement and vibrant colour. This piece measures approximately 12cm.

This specific morph showcases brilliant green polyps that typically extend during the day, giving the coral a full and lush appearance. The tentacles feature swollen, hammer-like tips, which are characteristic of this species and provide a dynamic, swaying display in the current. The green coloration is consistent and deep, making it a focal point in any reef tank.

Hammer corals appreciate moderate lighting, ideally between 100-200 PAR, though they can adapt to a wider range. Placement in the mid-to-upper levels of the rockwork is generally suitable. They require moderate, indirect water flow to keep detritus from settling and to encourage polyp extension without being blasted directly. Providing a stable environment with calcium at 400-450 ppm, alkalinity at 8-12 dKH, and magnesium at 1300-1400 ppm is crucial for their health and growth. While they derive most nutrition from photosynthesis, supplemental feeding with marine snow or finely minced meaty foods can encourage faster growth. Ensure adequate space around them as their sweepers can sting neighbouring corals.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
