Toxic Green Lobophyllia

Lobophyllia, or Lobo, corals are a familiar sight in reef aquariums, cherished for their colourful fleshy polyps and relatively straightforward care. This particular specimen is a vibrant green, a classic choice that stands out in any reef display.

This Toxic Green Lobophyllia forms a colonial, often encrusting or hemispherical, growth. The individual polyps are large and fleshy, expanding significantly when happy, creating a plush, undulating surface. Its intense green coloration is consistent and striking, making it a focal point. This piece measures approximately 9cm.

For best results, Lobophyllia thrive under moderate lighting, ideally 100-200 PAR. They prefer moderate, indirect water flow to keep detritus from settling on their tissues without causing irritation. Placement is best on the sandbed or lower to mid-rockwork where they can expand without stinging neighbours. While photosynthetic, they readily accept meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or coral pellets, especially when target-fed a few times a week. Maintain stable water parameters: Calcium 400-440 ppm, Alkalinity 8-10 dKH, and Magnesium 1300-1400 ppm. Ensure ample spacing from other corals, as Lobophyllia can extend aggressive sweeper tentacles at night.

Lobophyllia are an excellent choice for adding substantial colour and movement to the lower sections of a mixed reef, providing a lush, green landscape.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
