Description

The Long Tentacle Toadstool is a classic leather coral from the Sarcophyton genus. It's a long-standing favourite in the hobby for its unique shape and constant, gentle movement. This variety features the characteristic mushroom-like cap, but is covered in exceptionally long polyps that give it a flowing, grassy appearance. The polyps of this specimen are a consistent, solid green.

In the water, the long tentacles extend and sway with the current, creating a dynamic display. Like all leather corals, a toadstool will occasionally retract its polyps and develop a waxy film on its cap. It sheds this layer every week or two as a way of cleaning itself. normal behaviour, and it will typically reopen, looking bigger and better than before, within a few days.

For care, the Long Tentacle Toadstool is quite forgiving. It prefers moderate lighting, somewhere in the 100 to 250 PAR range, and moderate, indirect water flow. The flow should be just enough to make the polyps sway and keep the cap clean of detritus. Place it in the lower to middle regions of the tank with plenty of space, as it can grow to an impressive size. While mainly photosynthetic, it will absorb nutrients from the water column and may benefit from occasional broadcast feeding. Keep stable alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium levels. It's not aggressive, but can release chemicals, so give it some distance from sensitive SPS corals.

This is a WYSIWYG item, so you'll receive the exact specimen pictured.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
