Description
Description
The Maze Coral is a classic large polyp stony (LPS) coral, appreciated by reef hobbyists for its intricate, brain-like pattern and general hardiness. Its meandering skeletal structure adds a unique texture and topographical element to any reef aquarium, making it a popular choice for both new and experienced reef keepers looking for a visually interesting centerpiece.
This coral exhibits a characteristic meandroid growth pattern, where the corallites (skeletal cups) are fused into long, winding valleys. The flesh is typically a vibrant green, though colors can vary, sometimes presenting with contrasting shades in the valleys versus on the ridges. At night, the coral may extend its polyps from within these valleys, giving the colony a soft, fuzzy appearance as it prepares to capture food from the water column.
For optimal health, the Maze Coral requires a stable reef environment. It prefers low to moderate lighting, with a PAR range between 75 and 150, so placement in the lower to middle third of the tank on the rockwork is ideal. Water flow should be moderate and indirect; too much direct flow can inhibit feeding, while too little can allow detritus to settle in its deep grooves. While photosynthetic, it benefits from direct feeding once or twice a week with meaty foods like mysis or brine shrimp. Maintain standard reef parameters with calcium between 400-450 ppm, alkalinity at 8-12 dKH, and magnesium between 1250-1350 ppm. This coral can be aggressive, so provide at least 3-4 inches of space between it and neighboring corals to avoid damage from its sweeper tentacles. Standard drip acclimation is recommended upon arrival.
The Maze Coral is a worthwhile addition for its durability and distinctive appearance. Its unique structure offers a welcome contrast to the typical shapes of branching or plating corals, adding a point of interest to the reef scape that is both classic and engaging.

Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
