Description
The Platygyra brain coral is a well-known Large Polyp Stony (LPS) coral, recognised for its distinctive labyrinthine skeleton. This particular specimen shows the intense green colouration that gives it its common name. In the reef aquarium hobby, Platygyra are valued for the texture and structure they bring to a tank.
Under aquarium lighting, this coral's deep green valleys contrast with the lighter colour of its raised walls, creating a maze-like pattern that becomes more complex as the colony grows. While its polyps are not always visible during the day, long sweeper tentacles often extend at night. These are used for both defence and capturing food, a behaviour worth watching for from a safe distance.
For best results, place your Platygyra on the sandbed or a low-level rock structure where it can receive moderate light, in the range of 100-200 PAR. It prefers moderate, indirect water flow that is strong enough to keep its surface clean but not so strong that it blasts the tissue. Like many LPS, it benefits from occasional target feeding with meaty foods. While it can meet most of its energy needs through photosynthesis, a weekly meal will support better health and growth. Be sure to give it plenty of space, as its sweeper tentacles can damage nearby corals. Stable water parameters are important, with calcium around 420-440 ppm and alkalinity between 8-9 dKH.
Platygyra corals are a great fit for many reef environments, particularly those focused on LPS. They are generally peaceful during the day but their nocturnal sweeper tentacles require thoughtful placement. With steady conditions, a Platygyra brain will grow at a noticeable pace, making it a satisfying coral to keep long-term.

Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
