Description
Description
Leptoseris corals are a unique type of large polyp stony (LPS) coral known for their distinctive encrusting or plating growth forms. They are a favorite among reef aquarists for their ability to bring color and texture to lower-light areas of the aquarium, where many other corals cannot thrive. Their unusual appearance adds a different dimension to the typical reef aquascape.
This coral grows in a thin, plate-like layer that conforms to the shape of the rockwork it grows on. Its surface is covered in fine, radiating ridges that give it a textured look. The polyps, or "eyes," are very small and are scattered across the coralโs surface, often appearing as tiny contrasting dots. This variety typically displays a solid, deep orange coloration, making it a visible and attractive point of interest.
For proper care, Leptoseris should be placed in the lower third of the tank or on the sandbed, as it requires low to moderate lighting (50-150 PAR). It prefers low to moderate, indirect water flow; strong currents can prevent it from capturing food and may cause tissue damage. While primarily photosynthetic, it benefits from broadcast feeding with small particle foods like phytoplankton or amino acids. Maintain stable water parameters with calcium between 400-450 ppm, alkalinity at 8-12 dKH, and magnesium from 1250-1350 ppm. Leptoseris is a peaceful coral with no sweeper tentacles, but it should be given space to encrust and grow without being overshadowed by more aggressive neighbors. Acclimate slowly to your tank's conditions.
With its manageable care requirements and distinctive growth pattern, Leptoseris is an excellent choice for adding a splash of color to the lower, often overlooked, areas of a reef tank. It offers a different kind of beauty compared to branching or fleshy corals, rewarding the patient aquarist with a slow-growing, solid plate of color.

Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
