Description
Description
The solitary doughnut coral, Scolymia australis, holds a dedicated place among large polyp stony corals for its symmetrical saucer shape and saturated pigments. Sourced predominantly from temperate and subtropical southern waters, these single-polyp corals have long been regarded as premium centrepieces in mixed reefs and LPS-dominant systems.
This piece measures approximately 5cm, presenting a full, rounded fleshy disc with pronounced radiating septal ridges beneath its translucent mantle. During the day, the polyp inflates generously to absorb available light, while after lights out it extends short feeding tentacles around the central oral disc to trap suspended particulates and meaty foods.
Care requirements are straightforward once placed in a stable environment. Scolymia thrive best on the sand bed or secured low on the rockwork under low to moderate lighting, generally around 50 to 100 PAR. Flow should be gentle and indirect, just enough to prevent detritus from settling on the tissue without causing the flesh to fold or tear against its hard skeleton. Maintain stable calcium between 400 and 450 ppm, alkalinity at 8 to 9 dKH, and magnesium near 1350 ppm. Weekly direct feeding with fine mysis or specialised LPS pellets encourages thick tissue development, though ensure adjacent corals are kept several centimetres away to prevent contact damage. Acclimate gradually to your lighting to prevent tissue bleaching.
This is a WYSIWYG item, so you'll receive the exact specimen pictured.
Please note that colours can look slightly different in person than in photos, depending on your lighting and screen, and the size given is an approximate guide measured at the time of listing.
Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
