WA Kingspawn Coral

WA Kingspawn Coral, often simply called Kingspawn, is an LPS (Large Polyp Stony) coral prized for its dramatic colouration and fascinating polyp movement. Originating from the waters off Western Australia, these corals are a captivating addition to a reef aquarium, offering both aesthetic appeal and a dynamic focal point. This particular specimen measures approximately 10cm. It is a robust and relatively undemanding coral, making it suitable for both novice and experienced aquarists.

Kingspawn Corals develop a unique, often irregular, growth form as their polyps extend over a calcareous base. The polyps themselves are large and fleshy, displaying a rich, deep hue that is consistent with its common name. They typically extend well during daylight hours and retract somewhat at night or if disturbed. The surface texture of the polyps is often velvety, contributing to their impressive visual depth.

Kingspawn Corals thrive in moderate lighting conditions, ideally between 75 and 150 PAR. They prefer moderate, indirect water flow that allows their polyps to gently sway without being battered. Placement on the sand bed or lower to mid-level rockwork is generally suitable. While primarily photosynthetic, supplemental feeding with fine particulate foods such as zooplankton or copepods a few times a week can enhance growth and vibrancy. Maintain stable water parameters: Calcium 400-440 ppm, Alkalinity 8-10 dKH, and Magnesium 1300-1400 ppm. Kingspawn can be aggressive, extending sweeper tentacles at night, so ensure adequate spacing from neighbouring corals. Acclimation should be slow, allowing the coral to adjust to your tank's light and water chemistry over several hours.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
