Description
The War Coral is a member of the Favites family, an encrusting LPS coral known for its vivid and often contrasting colour patterns. It has been a mainstay in the reef aquarium hobby for a long time due to its hardiness and the visual punch it brings to a reef structure. Its common name comes from the intense colour combinations, which can sometimes look like a battlefield of pigments.
In a home reef, the War Coral grows by encrusting over rockwork, following its contours. The surface has a bumpy, textured appearance, with each polyp having a distinct, raised wall. At night, it may extend short sweeper tentacles from its perimeter, a behavior that is important to consider when placing it in the tank. Colouration is typically a base colour with a contrasting ring around the polyp mouth, often in combinations of red, green, orange, or purple.
For care, a War Coral prefers low to moderate lighting, in the 75 to 150 PAR range. Higher light levels can cause the colours to fade. Water flow should be moderate and indirect, just enough to keep the coral's surface free of detritus. It is an aggressive coral, so it needs its own space—plan on leaving at least a few inches between it and other corals to avoid any territorial disputes. While photosynthetic, it benefits from occasional spot-feeding with small, meaty foods. Maintain stable water parameters, with calcium around 420-440 ppm, alkalinity at 8-9 dKH, and magnesium at 1300-1400 ppm.
This coral is a great candidate for adding colour to the lower or mid-sections of a reef tank. Its encrusting nature means it will slowly coat the rock it is placed on, creating a very naturalistic look over time. Just be mindful of its sweeper tentacles and give it room to grow without encroaching on peaceful neighbours.

Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
