Description

Favites corals, commonly known as War Corals, are a classic choice in the reef aquarium hobby, appreciated for their hardiness and incredibly varied color patterns. This encrusting Large Polyp Stony (LPS) coral grows over the rockwork, creating a living tapestry of color with its distinct, angular polyps. Its straightforward care requirements make it an appealing choice for hobbyists who have some experience with maintaining stable water parameters.

The appearance of a War Coral is defined by its cerioid corallites, which means the polyp walls are fused together, creating a surface that resembles a honeycomb or a maze. The common name is derived from the sharp, contrasting color boundaries between polyps, which often look as if they are battling for space. These corals typically display intense color combinations, most famously deep reds adjacent to vibrant greens, though variations with orange, purple, and speckled patterns are also seen.

For best care, place your War Coral in the lower to middle sections of the aquarium on the rockwork where it will receive moderate light levels (around 75-150 PAR). It prefers moderate, indirect water flow, which is enough to keep detritus from settling on its surface without causing tissue damage. Favites are aggressive feeders; for best growth and coloration, target feed the polyps once or twice a week with meaty foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or specialized LPS coral pellets. Maintain stable reef parameters, with Calcium between 400-450 ppm, Alkalinity at 8-12 dKH, and Magnesium between 1250-1350 ppm. Because this coral can extend potent sweeper tentacles at night, it is very important to give it several inches of space from neighboring corals to prevent warfare.

A War Coral is an excellent addition to a reef tank, offering a dynamic splash of color and an interesting growth form. Its moderate growth rate and active feeding response make it an engaging species for the aquarist to observe and care for as it establishes itself in the aquarium.

This is a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) item. You will receive the exact War Coral frag shown in the accompanying photograph.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
