WYSIWYG Red Zoas

WYSIWYG Red Zoas are a vibrant and popular soft coral known for their striking coloration and ease of care. These particular zoanthids feature a captivating combination of deep red skirts surrounding a contrasting blue-purple center, often with a bright green or yellow mouth, creating a mesmerizing display. Zoanthids thrive in a range of lighting conditions, generally preferring moderate PAR levels between 50-150. Too much light can cause them to close up or bleach, while too little may lead to dull coloration and slower growth. They appreciate moderate, indirect water flow that helps keep them clean and brings them food without being overly turbulent. Ideal placement is typically on the sandbed or lower to mid-level rockwork, allowing ample space for their colony to expand. Ensuring stable water parameters is key to their health and vibrant appearance.

Red Zoas are primarily photosynthetic, deriving most of their energy from the aquarium lighting via their symbiotic zooxanthellae. While supplemental feeding is not strictly necessary, they will readily accept small particulate foods like zooplankton, phytoplankton, or crushed flakes, which can encourage faster growth and more robust health. Target feeding a few times a week can be beneficial. They are generally non-aggressive corals, but it's wise to ensure they have some space around them to prevent them from being overgrown by faster-growing corals or stinging adjacent inhabitants, as some zoanthids can produce toxins.

Maintaining stable water parameters is crucial for the long-term health of your Red Zoas. Aim for standard reef tank conditions: temperature 74-78°F, salinity 1.024-1.026, pH 8.1-8.4, alkalinity 8-12 dKH, calcium 400-450 ppm, and magnesium 1250-1350 ppm. While they are soft corals and do not build a skeleton, stable alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium are still important for overall reef health. When introducing new zoanthids, a slow drip acclimation over 30-60 minutes is recommended to minimize stress and help them adapt to your tank's specific water chemistry.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
