Yellow Acropora Fragment

Acropora are a diverse genus of small-polyp stony corals that represent the pinnacle of the reef aquarium hobby for many keepers. Their intricate branching structures and demanding care requirements make them a rewarding challenge. This particular Acropora shows off a bright yellow colouration, a classic for this group of corals.

Depending on the specific species and the conditions in the aquarium, Acropora can grow into a wide variety of forms, from fine-bottlebrush shapes to thick, arborescent skeletons. Their polyps are small and typically extend at night, though daytime polyp extension can be a sign of a happy, well-fed colony. This specimen has a distinct yellow hue that will intensify under the right lighting spectrum.

Acropora care requires stability above all else. They demand high light levels, ideally in the 250-450 PAR range, so placement in the upper areas of the tank is best. Strong, indirect water flow is just as important to keep the polyps clean and deliver nutrients. Stable water parameters are critical: maintain calcium between 420-440 ppm, alkalinity at 8-9 dKH, and magnesium around 1300-1400. While photosynthetic, they benefit from occasional feeding with SPS coral food. Keep them well away from any aggressive corals.

In a mature reef system with stable parameters, Acropora can be one of the fastest-growing corals, creating a stunning centerpiece over time. They are completely reef-safe and compatible with other high-energy reef inhabitants. Careful acclimation is key; start with a slow drip acclimation, followed by a gradual ramp-up of light intensity over a week or two to avoid shocking the coral.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
