Description
Chalice corals are a diverse group of LPS corals, appreciated in the reef aquarium hobby for their wide range of colors and unique growth forms. The Yellow Eye Chalice Coral is a popular variety known for its distinct coloration. These corals typically grow in an encrusting or plating fashion, creating shelves and ledges of living coral that can add interesting dimensions to a tank's rockwork.
This coral is characterized by a base color that can range from greens to reds or purples, with bright yellow or chartreuse oral discs, or "eyes," that provide a striking contrast. The surface of the coral is often textured, with the corallites being either flush with the surface or having slightly raised, fleshy rims. Over time, it will encrust over the rockwork or plug it is mounted on, and can develop a plating edge that extends out into the water column.
For care, Yellow Eye Chalice Corals prefer low to moderate lighting conditions, typically in the 75 to 150 PAR range. They should be placed in areas of low to moderate water flow, as high flow can inhibit polyp extension and cause tissue damage. Ideal placement is on the sandbed or on lower to mid-level rockwork where they are shielded from direct, intense light. Chalice corals are aggressive and can extend long sweeper tentacles at night, so they require at least 4-6 inches of space from neighboring corals. While photosynthetic, they benefit from target feeding once or twice a week with meaty foods like mysis or brine shrimp. Maintain stable water parameters, with calcium at 400-450 ppm, alkalinity at 8-12 dKH, and magnesium at 1250-1350 ppm. Slow drip acclimation is recommended when introducing it to your aquarium.
A Yellow Eye Chalice is a rewarding coral for hobbyists who can provide the proper placement and spacing. Its growth pattern and coloration can fill in lower-light areas of the reef with a unique and colorful centerpiece.

Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
