Yellow & Teal Alveopora

Alveopora, often called Flowerpot Coral or Daisy Coral, is a large polyp stony coral that offers a unique aesthetic and movement to a reef aquarium. They are a popular choice for reef keepers looking for a captivating addition without overly demanding care. This particular specimen is a lovely small frag, showcasing soft yellow polyps with striking teal centres, giving it a vibrant yet harmonious look. These corals are generally peaceful and a delightful sight as their polyps sway gently in the current. These corals are not photosynthetic powerhouses, but they do enjoy good lighting. Their polyps are long and delicate, emanating from a porous, often colourful skeleton. When happy, they extend fully, revealing their characteristic daisy-like appearance with a dozen tentacles per polyp, in this case, soft yellow with teal centres. These corals exhibit a gentle sway in the water flow, adding dynamic movement to the display. This piece measures approximately Frag. Alveopora are considered moderately easy to care for, thriving in established reef tanks. They appreciate moderate PAR levels, typically in the 100-200 range, to encourage good polyp extension and health. Flow should be moderate and indirect, enough to keep detritus from settling on the coral without battering its delicate polyps. Place them on the sandbed or lower to mid-rockwork where they can receive stable lighting and flow. While their zooxanthellae provide much of their energy, Alveopora will readily accept small, meaty foods like marine snow, phytoplankton, or copepods, especially when broadcast fed or target fed to encourage more vigorous growth and extension. Maintain stable water parameters: calcium at 400-440 ppm, alkalinity at 8-10 dKH, and magnesium at 1250-1350 ppm. They are not particularly aggressive but ensure they have enough space for their extended polyps to avoid stinging neighbouring corals. Acclimation should be slow, especially for lighting. The swaying polyps of an Alveopora add a unique sense of organic movement and softness to a reef display, complementing both SPS branches and other LPS corals. Its vivid yellow and teal coloration can provide a beautiful focal point or a vibrant accent within your aquascape.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
