Description

Zoanthids are a classic in the reef aquarium hobby, known for their diverse colours and colonial growth. These small polyps grow together on a single mat, forming a carpet-like colony over the rockwork. Their ease of care makes them a popular choice for both new and experienced reef keepers looking to add patches of colour to their system.

Individual zoanthid polyps consist of a central oral disc surrounded by a skirt of delicate tentacles. They come in a vast range of colours and patterns, often with contrasting centres and skirts. Depending on the specific morph, they can be green, orange, red, blue, or a combination of these. The polyps will open and close in response to light and water flow, and a happy, healthy colony will remain open for most of the day.

For best results, place zoanthids in low to moderate lighting, somewhere in the 75-150 PAR range. They prefer moderate, indirect water flow that is just strong enough to keep them clean without causing the polyps to stay closed. While zoanthids are photosynthetic and get most of their nutrition from light, they can benefit from occasional target feeding with coral-specific foods. It's important to give them space from other corals, as they can grow quickly and may overgrow slower neighbours. Always wear gloves and eye protection when handling them, as some species can contain palytoxin.

Zoanthids are ideal for adding colour to a mixed reef. They can be placed on small rocks on the sandbed or glued to the main rock structure, where they will slowly spread to form a living carpet. Their peaceful nature, aside from their growth rate, makes them compatible with a wide variety of tankmates that are considered reef-safe.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
