Description

Zoanthids are a reef aquarium staple, found in a huge range of colours and patterns. These colonial polyps grow as a mat across live rock, forming dense and colourful gardens over time. Their versatility and hardiness make them a common first coral for many hobbyists and a favourite of experienced reef keepers alike.

This variety of zoanthid typically displays a range of colours, often with contrasting oral discs and skirts. Individual polyps are connected by a fleshy tissue called coenenchyme that encrusts the rockwork. Depending on flow and lighting, their polyp skirts can be long and flowing or short and compact. They are generally peaceful but will encrust over anything in their path, so it's best to give them their own rock or an area where they have room to spread.

For best health, zoanthids require low to moderate lighting, somewhere in the 75-150 PAR range. They are not demanding when it comes to water flow, preferring gentle to moderate indirect currents rather than strong, direct streams. While they get most of their nutrition from photosynthesis, they will benefit from occasional target feeding with coral-specific foods, especially in lower nutrient systems. Maintain stable water parameters: Calcium around 420-440 ppm, alkalinity at 8-9 dKH, and magnesium at 1300-1400. Acclimation should be done slowly to avoid shock.

Zoanthids are an excellent choice for adding patches of intense colour to a mixed reef. They can be placed on the sandbed, on lower rockwork, or used to create a dedicated "zoa garden" on an isolated rock island. Their easy-going nature makes them compatible with most other reef inhabitants, as long as they are given space to grow without encroaching on more sensitive corals.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
