Description

Zoanthids are a staple in the reef aquarium hobby, known for their bright colours and colonial growth. These polyps form dense mats over live rock, creating a living carpet that can become a focal point in a mature system. Their diversity in colour and pattern is extensive, with individual polyps, or zooids, connected at the base by a fleshy tissue called coenenchyme. The title for this item does not specify a colour, so the specimen may exhibit any of the wide range of hues common to the genus, from greens and browns to more vibrant combinations.

Individual polyps have a distinct oral disc surrounded by a fringe of delicate tentacles. They open during the day to capture light and food, and will close up at night or if disturbed. Their growth form is encrusting, meaning they will spread over rockwork and any adjacent surfaces. This growth can be quite rapid in a healthy system, allowing them to fill in areas of the rockscape over time.

Care for zoanthids is straightforward, making them accessible to many hobbyists. They are adaptable to a wide range of lighting, but moderate PAR levels (around 100-250) will usually bring out the best colouration without risking light shock. Flow should be moderate and indirect; enough to keep detritus from settling on the colony, but not so strong that it prevents the polyps from opening fully. While they derive most of their energy from photosynthesis, they can benefit from occasional target feeding with coral foods or broadcast feeding with phytoplankton. Maintain stable water parameters, including calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium, as you would for any healthy reef.

One important consideration when handling zoanthids is the potential presence of palytoxin. It'''''''' It''''''''s always best practice to wear gloves and eye protection when handling these corals, both in and out of the water, to prevent any potential irritation from the slime coat or tissue.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
