Description

Zoanthids are a reef aquarium classic, found in almost every kind of system from nano tanks to large-scale displays. These colonial polyps are known for their bright colours and relative hardiness, making them a common entry point into the coral-keeping hobby. They belong to a wide-ranging group, with countless colour variations found in the wild.

Each zoanthid polyp consists of a central oral disc surrounded by a skirt of tentacles. They grow attached to a common fleshy mat, encrusting over rockwork and forming dense colonies over time. Under actinic lighting, many varieties will fluoresce, with colour combinations ranging from greens and browns to oranges, pinks, and yellows. The polyps will close up at night or when disturbed, but typically remain open during the daytime.

For care, zoanthids are quite adaptable. They do well under a wide range of lighting, from lower intensity PAR around 50-75 up to moderate levels of 150-200. Flow should be moderate and indirect to keep the polyps clear of detritus without blasting them shut. While largely photosynthetic, they can benefit from occasional small particle foods. Maintain stable water parameters with calcium around 420-440 ppm, alkalinity at 8-9 dKH, and magnesium at 1300-1400. Be mindful that some zoanthids can contain palytoxin, so it's wise to wear gloves and eye protection when handling them out of water.

Due to their encrusting nature, it's best to place them on an isolated rock or on lower rockwork where their growth can be managed. They aren't aggressive in the typical sense of sweeper tentacles, but they will grow over and smother neighbouring corals that can't defend themselves. Given some space, they create a living carpet of colour that adds mature, established texture to the reef.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
