Description
Description
Zoanthids, often called "zoas", are a staple of the reef aquarium hobby, known for their diverse colour patterns and relatively forgiving nature. They grow as mats of individual polyps connected at the base, making them easy to propagate. Their small size and colonial growth habit allow them to cover rockwork in a dense, colourful carpet over time.
Each zoanthid polyp is a distinct individual, with a central mouth surrounded by a ring of tentacles. They come in a vast range of colours and combinations, often with contrasting oral discs and skirts. Some morphs display subtle striping or speckling, which can become more pronounced under actinic lighting. When disturbed or during the night, the polyps will retract, but they extend readily in favourable conditions.
For best results, provide moderate lighting, around 100-200 PAR. While they can adapt to a range of conditions, zoanthids do not appreciate intense, direct light. They prefer moderate water flow, which keeps their surfaces clean without causing the polyps to remain closed. Zoanthids derive most of their energy from photosynthesis but will often grow faster with supplemental feeding of fine particulate foods. They contain palytoxin, so it is important to wear gloves and eye protection when handling them out of water.
Zoanthids are generally peaceful, but they can overgrow less aggressive, slow-growing neighbours. It is best to give them their own section of rockwork or place them on an isolated island where their spread can be managed. They are a great choice for adding patches of colour to a mixed reef, creating a living mosaic as different morphs grow together.

Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
