Description

Zoanthids, often called Zoas, are a classic choice for adding patches of colour to a reef aquarium. They are a colonial soft coral, meaning they grow as a connected mat of individual polyps. Their hardiness and wide range of colours have made them a staple in the hobby for many years.

The polyps of a Zoanthid colony are typically small, with a flat oral disc fringed by short tentacles. They come in a vast spectrum of colours and patterns, often with contrasting rings on the disc and skirt. The polyps will open and close in response to light and water conditions, and when closed, they look like small, unassuming bumps on the rockwork. As the colony grows, it encrusts over the rock, creating a living carpet.

For best results, provide moderate lighting, around 100-200 PAR. Zoanthids are quite adaptable to flow but generally do well in moderate, indirect water movement. They can be placed almost anywhere in the tank as long as they are securely attached to rock. While they are primarily photosynthetic, they can benefit from occasional target feeding with coral-specific foods. Like many soft corals, they can produce palytoxin, so it's wise to wear gloves and eye protection when handling them. Keep stable water parameters, and give them a few inches of space from other corals to allow for growth.

Zoanthids are a great way to fill in lower to mid-level rock areas with interesting colour and texture. Because of their encrusting nature, they can be used to "paint" sections of the aquascape over time. Their peaceful nature makes them compatible with most other reef inhabitants, as long as they aren't physically overgrown by more aggressive corals.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
