Zoanthus Fragment

Zoanthus are a classic reef aquarium staple, forming colourful mats of colonial polyps. These soft corals are known for their hardiness and the sheer variety of colours and patterns they exhibit. Belonging to the group often called "button polyps," they are a great way to add colour to a new or established reef tank.

Each polyp in the colony is an individual animal, connected to its neighbours by a fleshy base mat called coenenchyme. Under appropriate lighting, the polyps will open to reveal a flat oral disc surrounded by short tentacles. Zoanthus come in a huge range of colours, from subtle earthy greens and browns to vibrant oranges, reds, and blues, often with contrasting mouths and striped patterns.

For best care, place Zoanthus in low to moderate lighting, around 100 to 250 PAR. They are adaptable but can be sensitive to sudden, intense light changes. They prefer moderate, indirect water flow that is strong enough to keep their surface clean of detritus without preventing the polyps from opening fully. While largely photosynthetic, they can benefit from occasional feedings of fine particulate coral foods. Maintain stable water parameters with an alkalinity of 8-11 dKH, calcium of 400-450 ppm, and magnesium of 1250-1350 ppm. It's important to handle Zoanthus with care, wearing gloves and eye protection, as some varieties can contain palytoxin.

Zoanthus are generally peaceful, but they can grow over and smother sessile neighbours. It is often best to give them their own rock or an area where they can spread without coming into direct contact with other corals. They are an excellent choice for adding life to lower-light areas of the aquarium or for creating a dedicated "Zoa garden" on a piece of rockwork.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
