Zoanthus Fragment

Zoanthus polyps are a cornerstone of the marine aquarium hobby, appreciated for their straightforward care and the sheer diversity of colours they exhibit. These colonial polyps, part of the broader 'button polyp' group, offer a way to add dense patches of colour and texture to almost any reef environment.

In a home reef, Zoanthus grow as a connected mat, with individual polyps joined at the base. Each polyp has a distinct oral disc, often in a contrasting colour to its surrounding tentacles or 'skirt'. The colour combinations are almost endless, and their appearance can shift subtly depending on the light intensity and spectrum they receive. They are a classic for a reason, filling out a rock scape with a blanket of living colour.

For best results, provide moderate lighting, in the 100-250 PAR range, and moderate, indirect water flow. This helps keep the polyps clean without causing them to remain closed. Placement is flexible, though many hobbyists create dedicated 'zoa gardens' on isolated rocks in the lower to middle sections of the tank. While largely photosynthetic, they can benefit from occasional broadcast feeding of fine particulate foods. Like all corals, they thrive in stable water parameters. It is also a good practice to wear gloves and eye protection when handling them.

These corals are generally peaceful, but they can be overgrown by more aggressive neighbours. In turn, their steady growth can see them overgrow slower, encrusting species if not given appropriate space. They are an excellent choice for adding life to a mature system or starting out in a new nano reef, coexisting well with most standard reef fish and invertebrates.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
