Zoanthus Fragment

Zoanthus are a classic coral in the reef aquarium hobby, known for forming dense, colourful mats. These colonial polyps are appreciated by beginners and experienced keepers alike for their hardiness and the sheer variety of colours and patterns available across the genus. They are a great way to add patches of living colour to rockwork.

Each polyp consists of a round oral disc surrounded by a fringe of small tentacles. Zoanthus grow by budding new polyps from the connecting tissue at their base, gradually spreading to cover the surface they're on. Their colouration is famously diverse, with hobbyists documenting countless variations that can include nearly every colour of the rainbow. Depending on the specific morph, they can be solid, striped, or have contrasting colours between the disc and tentacles.

For best results, place your Zoanthus fragment under moderate lighting, in the 100-250 PAR range. They are quite adaptable but can be sensitive to very high light. They prefer moderate, indirect water flow, which helps keep their surface clean without preventing the polyps from opening fully. While primarily photosynthetic, they can benefit from occasional feedings of fine particle foods. As with most corals, stable water parameters are key. Handle them with care; wearing gloves is always a good practice as a precaution against the possibility of palytoxin in some species.

In a home reef, Zoanthus are generally peaceful neighbours, as they lack sweeper tentacles. However, they are fast growers and can encrust over and smother slower-growing, non-aggressive corals. It's wise to give them their own rock or place them with enough space to allow for their growth without encroaching on other prized specimens.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
