Zoanthus Fragment

Zoanthus polyps are a fixture in the reef aquarium hobby, known for their diversity and accessibility. These colonial soft corals grow as dense mats of individual polyps, connected at the base by a fleshy runner called a stolon. They are an excellent way to add colour to a new or established system.

This group of corals is famous for its incredible range of colours and patterns. Polyps can be found in nearly every shade, often with contrasting oral discs and skirts, sometimes with speckles, stripes, or rings. In the aquarium, they form a living carpet over rocks and surfaces. The polyps will typically close at night or when disturbed, and open again once they feel secure.

For best results, provide moderate lighting in the 75 to 150 PAR range and moderate, indirect water flow. Too much flow can prevent them from opening fully. They are not demanding about water parameters but will do best in a stable system with calcium between 400-450 ppm, alkalinity at 8-12 dKH, and magnesium from 1250-1350 ppm. While primarily photosynthetic, they can benefit from occasional broadcast feeding with coral-specific foods. It is important to handle Zoanthus with care and wear gloves, as some species can contain palytoxin.

Zoanthus are generally peaceful and make good neighbours, though they can be overgrown by more aggressive corals. They are best placed on isolated rocks where they can spread without interfering with other corals, allowing for the creation of a dedicated "zoa garden" effect.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
