Zoanthus Fragment

Zoanthus polyps are one of the most popular and variable corals in the reef aquarium hobby. These colonial polyps are known for their hardiness, fast growth, and the sheer variety of colour patterns they present. They grow as a connected mat of individual polyps, making them an excellent choice for covering rockwork or creating a colourful garden patch in the aquarium. Almost every reefer has kept them at some point.

Each polyp consists of a central oral disc surrounded by a skirt of tentacles. In the wild, they often appear in shades of brown, green, or cream, but in the reef aquarium hobby, selective propagation has produced a nearly endless spectrum of colours. Zoanthus are known for their active response to light and flow, opening wide to gather light and closing up when disturbed or in response to strong, direct currents. They grow by budding new polyps at the edge of the colony, steadily expanding their footprint.

For care in a home reef, Zoanthus are generally forgiving. They thrive under moderate lighting, with a PAR range of 100-250 being a good target. While they can adapt to higher or lower light, sudden changes should be avoided. They prefer moderate water flow, which is enough to keep detritus from settling on the mat but not so strong that it prevents the polyps from opening fully. Place them on rockwork in the lower to middle sections of the tank. They are primarily photosynthetic but will benefit from the ambient presence of microfauna and can be spot-fed with coral-specific liquid or powdered foods. Maintain stable water parameters, and always wear gloves and eye protection when handling them, as some species may contain palytoxin.

Their peaceful nature means they won't bother neighbouring corals, though they can be overgrown by more aggressive species. Given enough space, a small fragment can grow into an impressive colony over time. This makes them a great candidate for creating single-species "zoa gardens" or for adding patches of intense colour between other corals on your rockwork. They are a classic for good reason, adding a lot of life and colour for their relatively simple care requirements.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
