Alien Blood Hammer Coral

Hammer corals are a staple in many reef aquariums, cherished for their flowing tentacles and often vibrant colours. The Alien Blood Hammer Coral presents a particularly striking variant, bringing a rich, deep hue that stands out in a mixed reef. It is a popular choice for both new and experienced reef keepers due to its relatively straightforward care requirements. This piece measures approximately 13cm when fully extended. This specimen offers a unique and captivating presence in a reef display. The name "Alien Blood" accurately reflects its distinctive deep and intense coloration. Its striking appearance makes it a focal point in any aquarium. Like other Hammer corals, it can grow into an impressive colony over time. The polyps extend during the day, displaying their characteristic hammer-shaped tips and a flowing movement. Care for the Alien Blood Hammer Coral is quite manageable. It thrives under moderate PAR lighting, generally between 75 to 150 PAR, though it can adapt to a wider range. Moderate, indirect water flow is ideal to keep its polyps clean and prevent detritus accumulation without causing them to retract excessively. It prefers to be placed on a stable rockwork structure in the mid to lower sections of the aquarium. Regular feeding with small, meaty foods like mysis shrimp or copepods will encourage faster growth, though it primarily relies on photosynthesis. Stable water parameters are crucial: Calcium at 400-440 ppm, Alkalinity at 8-10 dKH, and Magnesium at 1300-1400 ppm. Leave adequate space around this coral, as its sweeping tentacles can sting nearby corals. Acclimation should be slow, especially to new lighting conditions.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
