Gold Banana Torch

The Gold Banana Torch, Euphyllia glabrescens, is a highly sought-after LPS coral, prized for its dynamic movement and vibrant gold colouration. Its distinctive long, flowing polyps make it a captivating focal point in any reef aquarium. This piece measures approximately 1-2 Large Heads. Torch corals are a staple in the reef keeping hobby, known for their visual appeal and generally straightforward care requirements. Some reef keepers call these Torch corals, while others use the name "Trumpet" coral, but they are both Euphyllia glabrescens. Many Torch corals have a single colour, but the Gold Banana Torch presents a striking contrast with its brilliant gold tentacles and typically a darker, sometimes greenish, oral disc. These polyps extend significantly, creating a shimmering, kinetic display as they sway in the water flow. The tentacles have rounded, often lighter, tips, which contribute to their characteristic "torch-like" appearance. Gold Banana Torch corals thrive under moderate to high lighting, with a PAR range of 100-250 being ideal. They prefer moderate, indirect water flow that allows their polyps to extend fully without being blasted or damaged. Placement should be on a stable rock structure in the mid to upper levels of the aquarium, ensuring adequate space from neighbouring corals. Torch corals are primarily photosynthetic, but they also benefit from supplemental feeding of small zooplankton or finely chopped meaty foods a few times a week. Maintaining stable water parameters is crucial: Calcium at 400-440 ppm, Alkalinity at 8-10 dKH, and Magnesium at 1300-1400 ppm. They can be aggressive, with sweeping tentacles at night, so ensure a generous buffer zone of at least 6-8 inches from other corals. Acclimation should be slow, with a gradual ramp-up of lighting over several days. The majestic swaying polyps of the Gold Banana Torch can provide a stunning, central display in a mixed reef, adding a sense of depth and movement. Its bold gold colouration stands out beautifully against other coral hues and rockwork.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
