Our quarantine procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Description

Goniastrea is a classic brain coral genus prized among reef keepers for its tidy, encrusting growth habit and exceptionally durable nature. Belonging to the Merulinidae family, it holds a dependable place in mixed reef aquariums where stable LPS corals are valued for long-term structure. This particular specimen displays a rich, uniform green coloration across its dense corallite framework.

The colony forms a solid, compact skeleton covered in shared corallite walls, creating a maze-like texture across its surface. During the day, the green flesh remains neatly drawn against the skeleton, highlighting the geometric ridges of each individual polyp. After lights out, short feeder tentacles extend to capture passing suspended food particles. This piece measures approximately 6cm across and will continue to encrust onto surrounding rockwork as it matures.

In the home aquarium, provide moderate lighting around 100 to 150 PAR and low to moderate, indirect water movement to prevent detritus from settling within the valleys. Placement on the sandbed or lower rockwork is ideal while it adjusts to system lighting. While photosynthetically fueled, it benefits from occasional spot feedings of fine meaty foods such as mysis or enriched LPS pellets when tentacles are extended. Maintain stable reef parameters with calcium around 420 to 440 ppm, alkalinity between 8 and 9 dKH, and magnesium near 1300 to 1350 ppm. Allow several centimetres of clearance from neighbouring corals, as Goniastrea can deploy sweeper tentacles at night when defending its territory.

This is a WYSIWYG item, so you'll receive the exact specimen pictured.

Please note that colours can look slightly different in person than in photos, depending on your lighting and screen, and the size given is an approximate guide measured at the time of listing.
