Hammer Coral

Hammer corals, Euphyllia ancora, are a cornerstone species in many reef aquariums. Known for their elegant movement and striking appearance, they are a popular choice for both new and experienced hobbyists looking to add a focal point to their tank. Their distinctive polyps create an engaging display under aquarium lighting. This particular piece measures approximately 8cm across. Hammer corals are an iconic large polyp stony coral. Their unique polyps terminate in large, blunt, hammer-shaped tips that give the coral its common name. These polyps extend significantly during the day, swaying gently in the current and revealing the coral's full, vibrant structure. Their movement adds a dynamic element to any reef display. For care, Hammer corals thrive under moderate to high PAR lighting, ideally between 100-250 PAR. They prefer moderate, indirect water flow to encourage polyp extension without causing tissue damage. Placement on the sandbed or lower to mid-level rockwork is generally suitable. While primarily photosynthetic, they benefit from occasional target feeding of small meaty foods like mysis shrimp. Consistent water parameters are key, with calcium at 400-440 ppm, alkalinity at 8-12 dKH, and magnesium at 1300-1400 ppm. They can be aggressive towards other corals, so provide adequate spacing, especially from soft corals. Acclimation should be gradual, particularly regarding lighting changes. A healthy Hammer coral adds both beauty and activity to a reef aquarium, filling out spaces with its flowing polyps.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
