Orange Leptoseris Coral

Leptoseris corals are a fascinating group of SPS that offer a unique aesthetic for the reef aquarium. They are known for their encrusting or plating growth forms and vibrant colours, making them a popular choice for reef keepers looking to diversify their SPS collection. This particular specimen is a lovely orange and measures approximately 8cm.

This coral typically grows as an encrusting or plating colony, spreading across rockwork or the aquarium floor. The polyps are very small and often recessed, giving the coral a relatively smooth appearance when extended. Its distinctive orange hue provides a striking contrast against other corals in the reef.

Leptoseris appreciate moderate to high lighting, around 200-350 PAR, to maintain their vibrant orange colouration and healthy growth. They prefer moderate, indirect water flow to keep their surfaces clean without stressing the tissue. Placement in the mid to upper sections of the aquarium, securely attached to stable rockwork, is ideal. While primarily photosynthetic, offering fine particulate foods like zooplankton occasionally can encourage growth. Maintaining stable water parameters is crucial: Calcium at 400-440 ppm, Alkalinity at 8-9 dKH, and Magnesium at 1300-1400 ppm. Leptoseris are generally peaceful corals, but like all sessile invertebrates, ensure adequate spacing from aggressive neighbours to prevent chemical or physical warfare.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
