Purple Hammer Coral

The Purple Hammer Coral is a popular and striking LPS coral in the reef aquarium hobby, known for its elegant polyps and vibrant colouration. This piece measures approximately 15cm across, offering a substantial display. It brings a dynamic visual element to a mature reef tank. This coral is a variety of Euphyllia. Its large, fleshy polyps extend from a skeletal base, swaying gently with water movement. The polyps are a rich purple colour, often with slightly lighter or darker tips, creating a captivating visual effect. Hammer corals are named for the distinctive hammer-shaped tips of their polyps, which are usually easily visible. They expand significantly during the day, showing off their characteristic structure. For optimal health and colour, Purple Hammer Corals thrive under moderate lighting, ideally between 75 and 150 PAR. They prefer moderate, indirect water flow that allows their polyps to sway gently without being blasted directly. Placement on the bottom to mid-level of the rockwork is generally suitable. While primarily photosynthetic, supplemental feeding of small, meaty foods like mysis shrimp or brine shrimp can encourage faster growth and improved vitality. Maintain stable water parameters: Calcium 400-440 ppm, Alkalinity 8-10 dKH, and Magnesium 1300-1400 ppm. Ensure adequate spacing from other corals, as their sweeper tentacles can extend and sting neighbours, especially at night. Acclimate new specimens slowly using a drip acclimation method.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
