Rainbow Lobophyllia

Lobophyllia, often called Lobo or Brain Coral, is a striking Large Polyp Stony (LPS) coral known for its substantial, fleshy polyps and vibrant colours. This particular specimen, a Rainbow Lobophyllia, showcases a captivating array of hues, making it a sought-after addition for many reef aquariums. It's a robust coral that brings significant visual impact to a rockscape. This piece measures approximately 6cm.

Our Rainbow Lobophyllia displays a wonderful mix of colours across its fleshy polyps, giving it a truly prismatic appearance. Its growth form is typically massive or encrusting, with corallites that are usually distinct and often irregular. During the day, the polyps extend, showing off their intricate patterns and a full spectrum of colours. At night, feeder tentacles may emerge, ready to capture available food.

For optimal health, Lobophyllia corals thrive under moderate to high PAR lighting, typically in the range of 100-250. They appreciate moderate, indirect water flow to keep detritus from settling on their tissues. Placement on the sand bed or a lower to mid-level rock shelf is usually suitable. While they host zooxanthellae for most of their nutritional needs, target feeding with finely chopped meaty foods or a quality LPS pellet a few times a week will promote robust growth and colouration. Consistent water parameters are key: Calcium 400-440 ppm, Alkalinity 8-12 dKH, and Magnesium 1300-1400 ppm. Ensure good spacing from other corals, as Lobophyllia can be aggressive and possess potent sweeper tentacles. A slow acclimation period is always recommended when introducing new corals to your system.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
