Our quarantine procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Description

The Red Acan Bowerbanki, classified scientifically under Homophyllia bowerbanki, is a classic large polyp stony coral revered for its fleshy polyps and robust growth form. This species occupies a special place among LPS enthusiasts who appreciate substantial polyp tissue and bold coloration. Offered as a frag, this coral displays rich red tissue across its central disc and margins, providing an intense visual anchor in the aquarium.

In terms of growth and structure, bowerbanki forms dense, massive skeletal colonies with polyps that expand outward during the day and extend feeding tentacles after the lights ramp down. The fleshy mantle cushions over its skeletal septa, showcasing deep red tones that remain consistent across the surface. While closely related to other acanthastrea and homophyllia species, bowerbanki typically produces larger, thicker polyps that give it a distinctive, pillowy texture under balanced reef lighting.

Caring for this coral requires standard LPS conditions to thrive long term. It prefers low to moderate lighting, ideally between 75 and 125 PAR, alongside gentle, indirect water flow that prevents detritus buildup without tearing its delicate, inflated tissue. Placement on the sand bed or low down on the rockwork provides the best environment for expansion and reduces the risk of light stress. Maintain stable reef parameters with calcium at 420 to 450 ppm, alkalinity at 8 to 9 dKH, and magnesium between 1300 and 1350 ppm to support ongoing skeleton formation. Target feeding fine meaty foods, such as mysis or enriched LPS pellets, once or twice a week encourages steady growth and full polyp inflation. Bowerbanki possesses sweepers and can pack a sting, so allow several centimetres of clearance between it and neighboring corals. Drip acclimate slowly upon arrival and light acclimate gradually on the bottom of the tank.

This is not a WYSIWYG listing; you'll receive a specimen of the same species with similar size and colouration to the one pictured, hand-picked for health and colour.

Please note that colours can look slightly different in person than in photos, depending on your lighting and screen, and the size given is an approximate guide measured at the time of listing.
