Reverse Hammer Coral

Reverse Hammer Corals, Euphyllia ancora, are a classic and highly sought-after large polyp stony coral in the reef aquarium hobby. Their distinctive hammer-shaped tentacles and flowing movement make them a captivating addition to many reef tanks. This particular piece measures approximately 12cm. They are known for being relatively hardy once settled, making them a good choice for both experienced and newer reef keepers.

Each polyp of the Reverse Hammer Coral has a fleshy, often green or brown stalk that extends into a T-shaped or hammer-like tip, which typically displays a contrasting colour, often a lighter shade of green or cream. These polyps extend significantly during the day, swaying gently in the current and adding dynamic life to the aquarium. At night, they retract somewhat, revealing a calcified skeleton.

For optimal health, Reverse Hammer Corals appreciate moderate lighting, ideally around 100-200 PAR, though they can adapt to slightly higher or lower intensities with proper acclimation. Moderate, indirect water flow is best, ensuring the polyps gently sway without being blasted. Placement in the mid to lower sections of the rockwork is usually suitable. While they primarily gain nutrients from their zooxanthellae, occasional feeding with small meaty foods like mysis shrimp or brine shrimp can encourage faster growth. Maintain stable water parameters: Calcium 400-440 ppm, Alkalinity 8-10 dKH, Magnesium 1300-1400 ppm, and Salinity 1.025. Like most LPS corals, they can be aggressive; ensure adequate spacing from other corals, as their sweepers can extend several inches at night. Acclimation should be gradual, particularly with light.

Reverse Hammer Corals are excellent for adding a focal point with movement and interesting texture. Their robust nature means they often thrive alongside a variety of other reef inhabitants, contributing to a diverse and active display.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
