Toxic Green Hammer Coral

Hammer corals, Euphyllia ancora, are a classic choice for reef keepers, prized for their flowing polyps and vibrant colours. This particular specimen presents a stunning toxic green hue, making it a focal point in any reef aquarium. Its distinctive tentacles move gracefully with tank currents, adding dynamic visual interest. This piece measures approximately 14cm. Some aquarists find them a good "starter" LPS, though they still require stable conditions to truly thrive. This green Hammer coral is a good representation of why these corals remain popular in the hobby. Its vibrant toxic green colouring is consistent across its polyps. Individual polyps extend from a central skeletal structure, swaying gently as they capture food. Hammer corals can be found in a branching or wall formation; this specimen exhibits a branching growth pattern, with multiple heads emerging from a solid base. Keep lighting in the moderate range, around 75-150 PAR, to maintain its health and colouration. A lower to mid-tank placement is generally ideal, ensuring it receives appropriate light without being overwhelmed. Flow should be moderate and indirect, enough to keep detritus from settling but not so strong as to cause the polyps to retract or be damaged. While they host zooxanthellae for most of their nutritional needs, target feeding with small meaty foods like mysis shrimp or copepods a few times a week will promote faster growth and better health. Maintain stable water parameters: Calcium 400-440 ppm, Alkalinity 8-10 dKH, and Magnesium 1300-1400 ppm. Hammer corals can be aggressive, with sweeper tentacles that extend at night, so give this green specimen ample space from other corals to prevent stinging. Proper acclimation is crucial; use a slow drip acclimation method over several hours to minimise stress from changes in water chemistry.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
